About

McDonald Transit Associates, Inc. offers management, planning, and operation services for bus, rail, and paratransit systems. Beginning our fourth decade of service, we remain focused solely on responsive, effective, efficient public transit. Public transportation solutions are our only endeavors, providing management services at 32 locations in sixteen states. We also have successfully completed more than 100 transportation studies and consulting assignments. Each client receives the individual attention and participation of the principals of the firm, including the CEO. Our record of contract renewal is the best in the industry.

An employee-owned corporation, McDonald Transit Associates, Inc. was founded in Fort Worth, Texas in 1972, with the City of Fort Worth as our first client.  We assisted the City with the acquisition of a failing private bus company and built it into a safe, clean, reliable system which restored the community’s confidence in public transportation.  This success led to a public referendum in 1983 which expanded the municipal system (Citran) into a sales-tax-supported regional transit authority (Fort Worth Transportation Authority) with three (3) member cities serving a population of greater than 500,000 people.

In October 2009, the shareholders of McDonald Transit authorized an investment transaction that allowed McDonald Transit Associates, Inc. to become part of RATP Dev.  Acting through RATP Dev USA, McDonald Transit is now part of the worldwide RATP Dev Group. RATP Dev has entered into partnerships to expand coverage and improve service in some of the world’s largest transit markets.

Since 2002, RATP Dev has grown to operate and maintain buses, metros, tramways and rail systems worldwide including Algeria, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, South Africa, South Korea, West Indies, and now the United States. This rapid growth reflects its exceptional breadth and depth of experiences in all rail, bus and paratransit modes.

The systems McDonald Transit manages and operates range from the very small such as the City of Needles, California with one bus operated at peak, to the very large such as CATS in Charlotte, North Carolina for which we operate over 300 fixed route buses.  Our corporate and management personnel have countless years of practical experience and expert knowledge of managing multiple modes of public transportation, including, but not limited to:

  • Traditional Fixed Route Service
  • ADA Complementary Paratransit
  • Demand Response and Dial-A-Ride Service
  • Coordinating ADA Paratransit with Medicaid
  • National Park Shuttle Service
  • Commuter Express Service
  • Specialized Trolley Service
  • Rural/County Transportation Service
